Engineered wood flooring is available in a variety of widths. So, when buying your first engineered wood flooring you may find it confusing to decide which one would be best for you. Actually, there are no strict rules as to which width works best in which situation. However, we may offer you some overall guidelines to help you make up your mind as to which width could be the most interesting option for your specific project.
We offer engineered wood flooring whose width ranges from 110mm to 240mm. You may think it’s quite a huge range when you’re faced with making a choice, but thanks to such a broad offer you will always be able to find a width which best suits every project, without any problems.
All in all, people usually assume that in small interiors narrow board are a must. Yet, that’s not true. If you’re decorating a small room and want to make it look larger, you might try choosing a narrow board, but, on the other hand, a broad board can look very stylish, not only in large, but also in small interiors. The choice of a wide board for a small room can help you achieve a great final look and in some cases, depending on the dimensions of the interior, it can make a wide room look narrower or make a long, narrow room look wider – much depends on the orientation according to which the boards are laid. Thus, if you want to re-design a tiny interior, don’t feel compelled to go for the narrowest boards on our offer, but instead think about a really wide board – in this way you can really change the look of your room.
The same principle applies to large interiors. It is a common belief that flooring in large interiors should have wide boards. Yet, that’s not a principle. Think of many castles and stately homes, which have really large interiors – very often you may encounter really narrow wooden floorboards there, which look stunning. Certainly, some really old buildings have wide boards, but a whole lot of large interiors are floored with narrow floorboards.
Another important trick, you might not have been aware of. If you want to achieve a formal look for your house or flat, pick narrow boards, which create a more formal final effect. So, if in the given interior there are highly polished antiques and you would like to stick with a formal atmosphere of the room, then a narrow board is what you’re looking for. But, for an informal, relaxed and modern final effect, a wide board is the answer.
That said, remember that if you can’t make up your mind, you can always go for a compromise. In such a situation, choose for instance a 150 or 180mm board, so you’re not going for too wide or too narrow floorboards. Such a choice means that it can’t go wrong – it’s a safe bet. But, remember that really narrow and a really wide boards are worth your attention if you want to make a clear statement in home decoration.
