Renovating a damaged parquet floor does not necessarily have to consist in restoring it to what it looked like before. That may be a perfect opportunity to introduce a radical change. Covering merely several wooden parquet blocks with some colour finish may transform your old floor into a modern one and totally alter the character of the interior. See how to do it!
Ever newer styles of wooden floors and parquets appear on shop shelves. And this doesn’t only imply that more and more exotic wood species are being used. These new styles are created by mixing two or three wood types, as well as by covering them with a floor paint. Highlighting their natural colouring by covering them with wood stain or oil finishes containing pigments in different colours has already been known to us. Now, the time has come for more distinct colours: grey, white, or even green and blue.
You don’t have to remove your old flooring to make your floor look modern. Covering merely several wooden parquet blocks with some colour finish may transform your old floor into a modern one and totally alter the character of the interior. The woodblocks may be covered with a wood paint or a spirit-based wood stain.
1. Renovation project
2. Applying masking tape
3. Painting planks
4. Applying oil
Those two methods differ in many respects. The paint creates a layer on the wood surface, while wood stain penetrates into the wood. It is true to say that in the case of the latter the rings of the wood will be more highlighted, but that’s a radical method.
You can easily remove the paint when sanding the floor, while in the case of wood stain it’s not that simple – it may penetrate so deep into the wood structure that after sanding the floor you’ll still see some remains of it on the parts that were previously covered with it. In such a case, wooden elements will have to be painted with wood stain again. Using paint gives you more possibilities to introduce changes in the colouring of the floor during the next renovation.
